A Right Heart In The Midst of God's Work
Being a part of what God is doing is very different from responding to what God is doing in a way that pleases Him:
1 Corinthians 10:1-6 NLT — I don’t want you to forget, dear brothers and sisters, about our ancestors in the wilderness long ago. All of them were guided by a cloud that moved ahead of them, and all of them walked through the sea on dry ground. In the cloud and in the sea, all of them were baptized as followers of Moses. All of them ate the same spiritual food, and all of them drank the same spiritual water. For they drank from the spiritual rock that traveled with them, and that rock was Christ. Yet God was not pleased with most of them, and their bodies were scattered in the wilderness. These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did,
God is looking for faith that opens the heart to be led in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, goodness, and self control.
Being in the middle of what God is doing with an unappreciative heart, a fearful heart, a doubtful heart... Complaining, criticizing, fact finding, and trouble shooting what God is doing is actually called unfaithful and displeasing by God.
Certainly, all across the world, men and women were rebelling against God while He led Israel through the Red Sea and the wilderness, but it was the doubts, fears, and complaints of God's people that God was provoked by.
When I was a father of young children, the behavior of other people's children was never my responsibility, it was always my own children I was charged to lead. God is a Father in this way, as well:
Hebrews 12:6-8 NLT — For the LORD disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.” As you endure this divine discipline, remember that God is treating you as his own children. Who ever heard of a child who is never disciplined by its father? If God doesn’t discipline you as he does all of his children, it means that you are illegitimate and are not really his children at all.
God's discipline is always the least necessary to show us our hearts... He never starts with a heavy hand. If we don't want to be corrected, we will miss it until His hand falls heavy on our lives. This is His gentleness and love.
Right now many are in the move of God but not responding with joy, gratitude, faith, hope, love, humility... Embracing the knowledge God has and our own poverty.
God is looking for faith that changes hearts. Mostly, we offer Him doubt, fear, and bitterness that doesn't just harden our hearts, but provokes God to a heavier hand... Not because of offense, but because of love.
There is a better way to walk through the return of the Lord. It requires vision of where we are going, certainty of the goodness of God and DISCIPLINE to bring our wayward thoughts, doubts, complaints, fears, criticism, gossip, impatience... To bring all these as enemies to the feet of God.
The flesh hates weakness. It attacks those who need help. It accuses, criticizes, points the finger and plots to destroy... But the thing the flesh hates is what God has actually given all to save! The flesh fears error and weakness... But all God sees when He looks at humanity is error and weakness. He knows we are dust.
We do not like being lower than we want to be. This is the arrogance of the fall.
Can we see it in ourselves? The error isn't found in our information, it isn't an ignorance of God's goodness that drives our pettiness
.. it's our unwillingness to be weak.
If I want to be put right again, I need a hopeful and certain heart response to the little truth I CAN see. FAITH pleases God, not right circumstances.
God has done more than enough for me to be glad, especially in the midst of error and weakness. Am I?
1 Corinthians 9:22-27 NLT — When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings. Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.
