Greatness
There were no "great prophets"...or great evangelists or great apostles in their day. People loyal to Jesus get called great long after they are dead. Mostly, other people that claim to love God call those truly loyal to Him divisive, subversive, off, or crazy.
The western Church (especially the charismatic and emergent varieties) has created a false category of Christian leader that somehow breaks all the boundaries Jesus laid out...a new kind of leader not in the Bible.... accepted by all, esteemed by all, and recognized for their greatness while still alive, bridging the boundaries between media and the Kingdom, business and the Kingdom, the culture and the Kingdom.... This is false. True leaders will snatch away many from the world... but not the way being sold to many. The true end time leaders will reap from the world not by being accepted by, but by being a total alternative to, the world's dying ways.
Many are being led astray by leaders that value what the world calls great over what Jesus calls great. It's a really good time to get re-calibrated.
Luke 11:47“Woe to you! For you build the tombs of the prophets, and your fathers killed them.
48“In fact, you bear witness that you approve the deeds of your fathers; for they indeed killed them, and you build their tombs.
Matthew 24:9“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake.
10“And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another.
11“Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many.
Hebrews 11:35Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.
36Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment.
37They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented—
38of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth.
39And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise,
40God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.
John 15:18“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.
19“If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
20“Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.
21“But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.
22“If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.
John 16:1“These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble.
2“They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.
3“And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.
4“But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.
I just picked a few....there are so many more...so many....
