Jesus' Yoke
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Jesus' yoke comes WITH Jesus himself.
The Lord hasn't called me to carry something for Him. He has called me to carry something WITH Him.
If you are willing to take His yoke, HE comes with it. The point isn't that He needs me to do something or establish something for Him. The point is that He is doing something and is inviting me to share in that with Him.
No one else can do what you are called to do, but Jesus wants to carry the thing He has put in your hand with you. It might sound too good to be true, but that is the point...He wants to show you how kind and generous He is. He doesn't give as the world gives, expecting more back than He gave. Jesus gives out of a generous heart and infinite abundance. He doesn't need a return on His investment. People that have tapped into this reality live like Him:
Daniel 5:16-17 And I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations and explain enigmas. Now if you can read the writing and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple and have a chain of gold around your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.” Then Daniel answered, and said before the king, “Let your gifts be for yourself, and give your rewards to another; yet I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation.
Satan's organizations run in a continual fear of lack. Power and authority are "invested" with a hope of getting more back.
Jesus doesn't "invest" in people. Investment suggests a personal return on the investment is the goal. No. God is a giver of good gifts...He has no lack. No return is necessary. In God's economy of strength, He is the one who has all the power, wisdom, and strength. He is inviting us to point our desire to Him and His perfect purpose, so we can share in the abundant flow of resource, fulfillment, and power. He has all of these already. God is perfectly self sufficient and self-satisfied. When we add to that our simple desire to touch that reality in OUR purpose, we share in the most glorious work: the return of the Light of Love to earth.
Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
Seeking the kingdom rightly, though it will require all, should strengthen you and give you rest.
God designs things that get stronger with use: the human body gets stronger with exercise. Faith gets stronger with exercise. True love flows through us from heaven and widens the river, or channel, of love the more it flows. Being child-like and partnering with God as sons and daughters in the family business...Letting God be God in our lives... lets more of Him flow through us, like a river digging an ever deeper channel. This takes trust to resist being our own source, or letting other finite humans be our source. It is a big risk, but a guaranteed success if you really believe the Bible.
In God's economy of time, wealth, and energy, partnering with Jesus in His work brings rest because it brings more of Him... it increases my capacity to let Him flow through me...but only when I really learn to trust Him and let Him. He is so gentle, He won't strip anything from my hands, even my false and heavy burdens I imagine I am carrying for Him!
It all comes back to desire. Do I desire to know Him, or to serve Him? To know Him will always result in me serving Him because to know Him is to see Him more and more as the King that He is... but to serve Him doesn't necessarily result in me knowing Him. Who do I say He is to me? A friend, a boss, a Father, a disciplinarian? It really matters.
Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
He is perfect love and abundance. We desire Him first, and He provides whatever is necessary. If we imagine Him with a different character we might get distracted and deceived in to doing His job of providing. This will always cost some part of our inheritance...what could have been freely ours! Everyone gets what they want, and who you think the master is will determine how you relate to Him. Those who want to believe God is harsh will find Him harsh. How you see Him will affect how abundant YOU are:
Matthew 25:24-30 “Then he who had received the one talent came and said, ‘Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.’ “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents. ‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
Matthew 11:28-30 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
