Prophets

We so readily study and cherish the prophets now...Isaiah, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, Amos...

But, in their day, most of us would have had nothing to do with them. They were seen as crazy, eccentric, unnecessarily negative, out of sync...Off base.

This is the question: how could we ever change if we never believed we needed to?

How would you feel if this guy went to church with you?

Isaiah 20:2at the same time the LORD spoke by Isaiah the son of Amoz, saying, “Go, and remove the sackcloth from your body, and take your sandals off your feet.” And he did so, walking naked and barefoot.

How would you feel if this guy were your neighbor?:

Ezekiel 4:10“And your food which you eat shall be by weight, twenty shekels a day; from time to time you shall eat it.

11“You shall also drink water by measure, one-sixth of a hin; from time to time you shall drink.

12“And you shall eat it as barley cakes; and bake it using fuel of human waste in their sight.”

13Then the LORD said, “So shall the children of Israel eat their defiled bread among the Gentiles, where I will drive them.”

14So I said, “Ah, Lord GOD! Indeed I have never defiled myself from my youth till now; I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has abominable flesh ever come into my mouth.”

15Then He said to me, “See, I am giving you cow dung instead of human waste, and you shall prepare your bread over it.”

Would you listen to someone like this man, the guy who did your lawn, if he was warning you that all would fall and that you needed to repent and come back to your first love...That to not respond would mean your own death and the death of your children?

Amos 7:13But never again prophesy at Bethel,

For it is the king’s sanctuary,

And it is the royal residence.”

14Then Amos answered, and said to Amaziah:

“I was no prophet,

Nor was I a son of a prophet,

But I was a sheepbreeder

And a tender of sycamore fruit.

15Then the LORD took me as I followed the flock,

And the LORD said to me,

‘Go, prophesy to My people Israel.’

16Now therefore, hear the word of the LORD:

You say, ‘Do not prophesy against Israel,

And do not spout against the house of Isaac.’

17“Therefore thus says the LORD:

‘Your wife shall be a harlot in the city;

Your sons and daughters shall fall by the sword;

Your land shall be divided by survey line;

You shall die in a defiled land;

And Israel shall surely be led away captive

From his own land.’ ”

Woe to the most prophetic generation the earth has ever seen who wants it's prophets on stages, approved by the other prophets on stages... flooded in the light of Babylon. People always get the fruit of the prophets they want. Woe.

Matthew 23:28“Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

29“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous,

30“and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’

31“Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets.

32“Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt.

33“Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?

34“Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city,

35“that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.

36“Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.
