Invitation of Prophecy
All prophecy is an invitation to submit to God in faith. All prophecy is an invitation to grow in meekness and humility ... To become more like Jesus.
Many people are told of great things to come so they will respond to them. Because God chose love, he also chose free will. Prophecy is an invitation to use your freedom to choose restraint. Where there is vision that is believed and submitted to, restraint follows:
Proverbs 29:18Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint;
But happy is he who keeps the law.
19A servant will not be corrected by mere words;
For though he understands, he will not respond.
Many have been shown prophetic realities. Unfortunately, many also reject the restraint that the prophetic vision is inviting them into.
Often, the prophetic reality still happens, but it happens in a way that does not benefit, or sometimes even include, the one who had the vision because they wouldn't say yes to what the word was inviting them into.
Jesus gives prophecy so that after it happens, we know he is in charge. If we chose to put him in charge in advance by submitting to who He is and trying to grow more like Him, the prophecy benefits us, because it always benefits Him and those like Him. If, on the other hand, we try to control things to make the prophecy happen, we find ourselves in the rebellion of Saul...someone else who was willing to become like Jesus becomes king in our place (David, in the case of Saul.)
We are in a prophetic hour. Over the last several years an incredible number of people have gotten personal prophecies. The word works to sift us. If we choose meekness, humility, forgiveness, faith...if we try to really become more like Jesus, that prophetic word will accomplish everything promised. If we try to take all the "good parts" apart from the humility, meekness...apart from the cross...that prophetic word will actually become a rock of offense.
John 13:18“I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’
19“Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He.
20“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
21When Jesus had said these things, He was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.”
1 Peter 2:7Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient,
“The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone,”
8and
“A stone of stumbling
And a rock of offense.”
They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.
Lots of people can give prophecy...very few desire to keep the prophecies given to them.
Revelation 1:3Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.
