Generations
We live in a time of great importance to God. Not every generation is seen the same way by God. There are generations that are set apart:
Psalms 24:6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face.
The Bible tells of the generation called "Jacob." Jacob became Israel...God's chosen...by responding...wrestling...with God and entering into what He was doing.
Genesis 32:24-30 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!” So He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob.” And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” Then Jacob asked, saying, “Tell me Your name, I pray.” And He said, “Why is it that you ask about My name?” And He blessed him there. So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: “For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
There is an entire generation of Jacob prophesied. A gathering of God's people in one generation that will respond to hour they live in. This is the end-time generation. This is YOUR generation. This is the third transitional generation.
The three Biblical "transitional" generations are the generation of Moses, Jesus' generation, and OUR generation.
The Israelites (through Moses and Aaron) in the Exodus story released judgment on those in rebellion to God. This entire generation of God's people saw wonders in the sky and on the earth. The sea split, water from a rock, food from the sky...God revealed Himself and the power of His hand in a supernatural and unique way to this generation. They were all called unfaithful to God, because they did not respond to God in a way that matched the glory of the hour they were chosen to live in:
Deuteronomy 1:32-35 “But even after all he did, you refused to trust the Lord your God, who goes before you looking for the best places to camp, guiding you with a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day. “When the Lord heard your complaining, he became very angry. So he solemnly swore, ‘Not one of you from this wicked generation will live to see the good land I swore to give your ancestors,
The second transitional generation was the generation of Jesus. This transitional generation experienced the ushering in of a new covenant...the covenant of grace. They understood grace to be grace that overcomes, not grace to live in compromise. This generation of God's people responded rightly. However, this was a very small generation of God's people...120 responded to the signs and wonders God had shown multitudes. 500 people witnessed the resurrected Lord, but only 120 people showed up to the prayer meeting!! Those 120 are counted as faithful forever. The rest of that transitional generation...those who witnessed the raw power of God on earth...they wouldn't shake the slumber out of their minds. They were comfortable with a little bit of God and the old religious system. They knew someone was before them who was unique, and rather than respond in faith, they put him to the test...they said "prove yourself, and THEN I will respond":
Matthew 12:39-42 But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.
It is very important to know the time you live in. Many who claim to know and hear God will completely miss the generation they live in. They will even cast out demons and prophesy...but they will have...just like the unfaithful portion of the generation of Jesus...missed the opportunity available to them in the unique generation they lived in:
Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Faithfulness is not simply claiming His name. Some generations are simply set apart. More is available to them, but a RESPONSE is required. To fail to respond to the hour you live in is considered "unfaithful" to God. To the generation more is available to, more is actually required. You won't loose your salvation by not responding, but you will be weak in the storm coming. A storm of epic proportions is coming, just like the test in the desert, or the Book of Acts experiences of the last transitional generation. Faithfulness helps you, not God!
Here, Jesus is describing Christians...His servants...who assume that they don't live in the hour that should be obvious to them. They live life as normal...eating and drinking, and even oppressing those who are actually doing their job of feeding truth to the rest of God's people:
Luke 12:45-48 But if that servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and be drunk, the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant who knew his master’s will, and did not prepare himself or do according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he who did not know, yet committed things deserving of stripes, shall be beaten with few. For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required; and to whom much has been committed, of him they will ask the more.
This is what a faithful servant does in the third transitional generation: He knows the plan...the food...the bread of the Word of God, and He knows how to feed the rest of God's people the correct word in season:
Matthew 24:45-47 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods.
Right now, we are entering a time of great division. Division not just between believer and unbeliever, but division between the faithful and unfaithful servants. Jesus prophesied this division...so did every major and minor prophet. This is unique to our generation. A transitional generation is different. The raw power of God will break out on earth...in your lifetime. But, more is required in this generation. Already, the church is seeing the first waves of visitation. If you live in a place where unity is happening within the Church, you are already seeing the supernatural happen. This is a reverse of a trend that has been going for thousands of years! A response is required!
An entire generation can miss the supernatural visitation by God simply by continuing to wait for more extreme signs. By the time you witness the extremes, it is too late to respond with faithfulness. Faithfulness is responding BEFORE you see...before it is obvious:
Luke 1:45 Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord.”
Not every generation gets the luxury of living like the previous one. You cannot "wait and see." God considers this the same as worshiping false gods. This is a prophecy concerning our generation...the generation that see Jesus return. When you see the intense events happening in Jerusalem, you are supposed to respond by building the Tabernacle of David (the location of singing)...not wait and see!
Isaiah 65:11-17 “But it will be different for you that forsake me, who ignore Zion, my sacred hill, and worship Gad and Meni, the gods of luck and fate. It will be your fate to die a violent death, because you did not answer when I called you or listen when I spoke. You chose to disobey me and do evil. And so I tell you that those who worship and obey me will have plenty to eat and drink, but you will be hungry and thirsty. They will be happy, but you will be disgraced. They will sing for joy, but you will cry with a broken heart. My chosen people will use your name as a curse. I, the Sovereign Lord, will put you to death. But I will give a new name to those who obey me. Anyone in the land who asks for a blessing will ask to be blessed by the faithful God. Whoever takes an oath will swear by the name of the faithful God. The troubles of the past will be gone and forgotten.” The Lord says, “I am making a new earth and new heavens. The events of the past will be completely forgotten.
When the signs declared by Jesus are everywhere. When Jerusalem is surrounded by enemies...you are supposed to KNOW the generation you are in!
Matthew 24:33-34 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near—at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.
Psalms 24:6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face.
