------------
Doubt is simply the senses striving against the word of God.
Doubt steals all the enjoyment out of the act of faith. It divides mind, will, and emotion from the choice to believe the word of God.
Doubt is full of very real reasons, but it produces no faith. It waters down faith...Makes it easier to let go of if necessary. Doubt is simply already deciding to not believe if things don't look right in the future.
Doubting accomplishes nothing. It's a thief.
Doubt was the crack Satan introduced in the relationship between God and man that allowed pride through the shield of faith and looted all of creation.
Genesis 3:1Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”
2And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;
My faith is not dependant on anyone else, and my doubt isn't someone else's fault. They are both a condition indicating the nature of my relationship with God.
Overcoming doubt is the first step in overcoming the world.
Matthew 14:29So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.
30But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
31And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
Mark 11:21And Peter, remembering, said to Him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree which You cursed has withered away.”
22So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God.
23“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.
James 1:6But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
7For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
Seeing the truth is not enough to destroy doubt. Doubt is a spiritual problem, not an evidence problem:
Luke 24:33So they rose up that very hour and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together,
34saying, “The Lord is risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!”
35And they told about the things that had happened on the road, and how He was known to them in the breaking of bread.
36Now as they said these things, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and said to them, “Peace to you.”
37But they were terrified and frightened, and supposed they had seen a spirit.
38And He said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts?
39“Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”
40When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His feet.
41But while they still did not believe for joy, and marveled, He said to them, “Have you any food here?”
42So they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish and some honeycomb.
43And He took it and ate in their presence.
44Then He said to them, “These are the words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.”
45And He opened their understanding, that they might comprehend the Scriptures.
46Then He said to them, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day,
47“and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
48“And you are witnesses of these things.
49“Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
The fruit of doubt is striving and contention. The fruit of faith is humility. Doubt is unsettled, even in the calm. Faith is calm, even in the storm.
Doubt is only overcome by yielding to the Holy Spirit. Faith is the antidote to doubt, and faith is a fruit of the Holy Spirit.
Humility is to NOT doubt. To the world this often seems like arrogance or hard-headedness, but to God it is the basic ingredient of faith. Faith requires humility so I can yield to a different truth, one not readily seen, but heard from beyond the veil, where truth resides:
John 14:5Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
7“If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”
8Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.”
9Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
10“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.
11“Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.
12“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
