Humility of God

The humility of God is what is most astonishing. The Roman God's have stories rooted in fantasy and mythology...reputations built on grand stories. The false religions are steeped in fantasy of their god's and prophet's supernatural feats to simply show their grandiose stature...night journeys and heavenly visits...all of which point their followers to the imposed submission required in the presence of these "great gods". These false religions reflect the nature of their gods....With the adherents trying to elevate in power and demanding submission to their gods, and thus, themselves.

But, the true Creator of All is entirely different.

Jesus was born of a woman, into a barn. He was a refugee in Egypt, because he was vulnerable...On purpose! Although He is God and all things were created through Him, He chose to put that all aside and come to earth as a man...Even dying a natural death...experiencing the ultimate shame of the fall of humanity:

Phillippians 2:6Though he was God,

he did not think of equality with God

as something to cling to.

7Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;

he took the humble position of a slave

and was born as a human being.

When he appeared in human form,

8he humbled himself in obedience to God

and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

9Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor

and gave him the name above all other names,

10that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,

in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.

This is the greatness of Jesus...Name above all names... That He is HUMBLE. The true author of all of creation is humble! This is the most amazing news the earth could ever receive. His true followers are humble as well...Because the father of Jesus....The Genesis 1 Creator God who speaks and worlds are framed...He is HUMBLE, not even sparing his own son in order that we rebels would not be lost:

Romans 8:28And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

29For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

30And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.

31What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

32Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?

33Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for his own? No one—for God himself has given us right standing with himself.

34Who then will condemn us? No one—for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and he is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.

This is the Character of God...The nature of His personality: goodness, gentleness, kindness, self controlled, faithful, loving, patient...Kind. This is reflected in His true followers.

Galatians 5:19When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures,

20idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division,

21envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

22But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

24Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his cross and crucified them there.

25Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

26Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.

Jesus could choose to be anything He wants to be. The Father began His relationship with mankind with a blank slate...He could have chosen to present Himself to us any way He wanted...And He chose humility and love. He chose to make us of His kind...In His image.

Man rebelled against this, and in humility, God reconciled arrogance with even MORE humility...Even descending into Hell to preach freedom to the captives there.

All of Jesus' miracles were for the elevation of others...Their healing and mostly their reconciliation to the father. Often, Jesus instructed the beneficiaries of His miracles to tell no one!

Matthew 8:4Then Jesus said to him, “Don’t tell anyone about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.”

Though Jesus has all power and authority....Though he could make every knee bow and every tounge confess that He is Lord of all even right now...Even this minute... He refuses to yield to arrogance. It is entirely out of His character to be arrogant.

Satan did not want Jesus to go to the cross. The cross was a sound defeat for Satan. Satan's strategy was to get Jesus to give in to pride...To make Himself appear as God...To grab power and wield it over the earth. To be like Satan himself....Not to be willing to live out the ultimate act of humility and break the power of pride. When Peter told Jesus to not go to the cross, Jesus said "this is how Satan thinks":

Matthew 16:19And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”

20Then he sternly warned the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

21From then on Jesus began to tell his disciples plainly that it was necessary for him to go to Jerusalem, and that he would suffer many terrible things at the hands of the elders, the leading priests, and the teachers of religious law. He would be killed, but on the third day he would be raised from the dead.

22But Peter took him aside and began to reprimand him for saying such things. “Heaven forbid, Lord,” he said. “This will never happen to you!”

23Jesus turned to Peter and said, “Get away from me, Satan! You are a dangerous trap to me. You are seeing things merely from a human point of view, not from God’s.”

24Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.

25If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.

26And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?

27For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds.

Right now, our lives are an expression of our choice to be like God. If we choose Him, His character, then on the last day, we will be raised up. Heaven will be entirely different than earth in the nature of how people are treated....And the meek will inherit the earth!

He is coming back...Heaven is coming back...And His humility will break pride once and for all !!

Isaiah 42:1“Look at my servant, whom I strengthen.

He is my chosen one, who pleases me.

I have put my Spirit upon him.

He will bring justice to the nations.

2He will not shout

or raise his voice in public.

3He will not crush the weakest reed

or put out a flickering candle.

He will bring justice to all who have been wronged.

4He will not falter or lose heart

until justice prevails throughout the earth.

Even distant lands beyond the sea will wait for his instruction.”

5God, the LORD, created the heavens and stretched them out.

He created the earth and everything in it.

He gives breath to everyone,

life to everyone who walks the earth.

And it is he who says,

6“I, the LORD, have called you to demonstrate my righteousness.

I will take you by the hand and guard you,

and I will give you to my people, Israel,

as a symbol of my covenant with them.

And you will be a light to guide the nations.

7You will open the eyes of the blind.

You will free the captives from prison,

releasing those who sit in dark dungeons.

8“I am the LORD; that is my name!

I will not give my glory to anyone else,

nor share my praise with carved idols.

9Everything I prophesied has come true,

and now I will prophesy again.

I will tell you the future before it happens.”

10Sing a new song to the LORD!

Sing his praises from the ends of the earth!

Sing, all you who sail the seas,

all you who live in distant coastlands.

11Join in the chorus, you desert towns;

let the villages of Kedar rejoice!

Let the people of Sela sing for joy;

shout praises from the mountaintops!

12Let the whole world glorify the LORD;

let it sing his praise.

13The LORD will march forth like a mighty hero;

he will come out like a warrior, full of fury.

He will shout his battle cry

and crush all his enemies.

14He will say, “I have long been silent;

yes, I have restrained myself.

But now, like a woman in labor,

I will cry and groan and pant.

15I will level the mountains and hills

and blight all their greenery.

I will turn the rivers into dry land

and will dry up all the pools.
