The Point of the End Times
This is the basic point of the end time events:
Luke 21:17“And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake.
18“But not a hair of your head shall be lost.
19“By your patience possess your souls.
To 'possess your soul' means to learn to own your heart rather than letting your heart own you.
Your heart is your mind, will, and emotions. As intensity increases, the leadership of the heart will be more and more tempting. Reacting based on our thoughts, emotions, and the fear of the loss of our control of our own destiny (our will) will drive many away from the leadership that brings life, the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
Man was made in the image of God. We are triune: body, soul, and spirit.
1 Thessalonians 5:23Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The leadership of a person's life is designed in a certain order of authority. The one who made you wants to lead you...to be your dad. Jesus paid for the possibility of the leadership of the Father. He paid the cost for rejecting the leadership of the Father, which was death. Not abiding in the leadership structure that brings life = death. To reverse this curse, Jesus paid for the Holy Spirit to come into a person to lead them.
If you are truly saved, then you have God inside of your spirit. You're best life is found in learning to listen to His leadership inside of you. This takes some intention. God likes love. He doesn't force people into His leadership. He doesn't trick people into His leadership. He lets truth reveal the failure of every other leadership until we choose to let God lead us, or completely reject God's leadership. All of us are in that valley of decision. We are either growing in God's leadership, or slowly dying of a hardening heart. Both the living and the dying might claim to have 'said the prayer' or even attend church, etc. But only the living are learning to submit to the leadership of God by listening to the Holy Spirit.
Phillippians 3:14I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
15Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.
16Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.
17Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.
18For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame—who set their mind on earthly things.
The leadership of the Holy Spirit calls us upward to freedom. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom from the leadership of our flesh, or our heart and body...appetites, wrong thinking, and feelings.
We hear often to 'follow our hearts.' This is an evil deception. We need to follow the Spirit to live. To follow the heart is to die.
The order of authority goes like this:. The Spirit leads those it made, the mind, will ,and emotions, or soul/heart, conforms to the leadership of the Spirit. Then, the appetites of my body are held in the fruits of the Spirit and they get rightly satisfied. The fruit of the Spirit manifest in my emotions, will and thinking are powerful to keep the appetites of my body from taking over!
Love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, gentleness, self control, faithfulness, and kindness are consequences, or fruits, of letting the Holy Spirit inform my decision making.
These will 'possess' my mind, will, and emotions if I let them. It takes time. Patience is the essential beginning of understanding the end of the age! By going after patience and denying impatience leadership in my heart, I give the Holy Spirit an open door to help me possess the rest of my heart. If I don't seek patience in my heart, eventually my heart will lose the war of my leadership to my appetites. We call this depravity.
The intensity of trouble is ramping up to the point where many will comfort themselves by simply feeding their appetites. This will make the trouble MUCH worse. This will make many slaves.
We need to go in the opposite direction. If I deny my heart the leadership it can't really handle anyway, and I let the Holy Spirit speak to my decision making, then I find the strength to keep my appetites from growing too strong to handle.
This is how I let the Holy Spirit lead: I talk to Him!
If I take the time to repent of impatience, bind impatience in the name of Jesus, and thank the Holy Spirit for patience inside me, then that patience begins to expand into my heart....simply because I liked patience over impatience enough to do something about it. It's weak to simply mentally embrace patience, but it opens a door to the very powerful Holy Spirit! It is simply agreeing with God that makes a voluntary space for Him to lead me.
It's time to possess our souls ... To own them with Jesus, and not let them own us.
Blessings.
