Kindness and Goodness
Psalm 89:15 How happy are the people who worship you with songs, who live in the light of your kindness!
God's kindness never stops. God's kindness is perfectly complete. By definition, there is nothing, and no one, more kind than God. He has chosen kindness and mercy as one of His traits. The light of His kindness never stops shining. It is up to us whether or not we stand in the light.
In my yard there is a light, parts of my yard are lit up by it, and other parts of my yard are not. If I stand in the dark, it isn't because the light is off, it is because I am not "living" in its presence.
God created us to live in His light. He never intended us to be without Him, but He also created us free...really free...so free we could choose to not live in His light. A lot of the time we live in darkness, fear, jealousy, worry, depression, anxiety...you name it, when we don't have to. If these things are an attack from our enemy, we have the authority to send them away in the name of Jesus, but sometimes these feelings come from our own wandering from the light.
Thankfully, Ethan the Ezrahite, the guy who wrote this Psalm (the Bible says he was one of the wisest men of His day), told us how to walk back under the light: worship God with songs! It seems so simple, but it is true. If you want to live in the light of God's kindness, you just have to remind yourself it is available to you! Singing songs of worship reminds you of who God is, how bright His light is, and who you are to Him. The promises of living in the light of His kindness are awesome and are listed in the next couple of verses: rejoicing all day long, victory, triumph, and protection.
If you are feeling like you are walking in some darkness...or even dimness...try it out. A simple worship song, even something as easy to remember as "Jesus loves me" will turn things around quickly! (You have to sing it though, not just think it. No cheating...)
Psalm 89:13 How powerful you are!
How great is your strength! 14 Your kingdom is founded on righteousness and justice;
love and faithfulness are shown in all you do. 15 How happy are the people who worship you with songs,
who live in the light of your kindness! 16 Because of you they rejoice all day long,
and they praise you for your goodness. 17 You give us great victories; in your love you make us triumphant.
