Purpose
God fashioned my heart uniquely with a plan and a purpose in mind:
Psalm 33:14 From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; 15 He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works.
God's plan and purpose for me is perfect to fulfill the dreams placed in my heart when He formed me. God knows how to satisfy what He has built my heart for. The chambers of my heart are different from yours. What will satisfy me is different than what will truly satisfy you. Wanting what someone else has is actually desiring something "less-than" what I was made for. This is so hard to remember. My response to God is unique and special to Him, but His love for me is unique and special for me, too. No one can have a relationship quite like mine and His. No one can have a relationship with God quite like you can.
It is tempting, as I watch God move, to fear missing where He is going. I don't want to miss out on what God has for me. It is tempting to gauge what He has for me by what He is doing around me. It is tempting to hear the call in my ear, for Him to reveal some amazing part of His plan for me, and start to walk into it, and then look around me to make sure I keep up with what He is doing. Whenever I watch other people move into the things they are called to, it is tempting to gauge myself in relation to them. This is a big mistake. This is like Peter watching the wind and the waves around Him when he was called to walk on water:
Matthew 14:28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” 31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”
I love this story! It was only in Peter's heart to walk on the water. He's the only one who thought to ask for it. Peter contended for the desire in his heart when he spoke up and made his request known to Jesus. Jesus, who already knew Peter would want this, said "come". At this point, you would think Peter would just walk on the water! But no one else was with him, and he got distracted by the wind and the waves, and fear that he might not be in the right place at the right time pulled his focused off the one who authored the desire in his heart, issued the call, and was the only one who had the power to fulfill the call. No one can walk on water without Jesus! But Peter took His eyes off the only one who could make Peter's desire happen!
God's purpose and plan is intended to move me into the position He has prepared for me. If I will let Him have his way with my heart. If I will make knowing and obeying Him the dream of my heart, He will establish me in the place prepared for me:
Matthew 20:23 So He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.”
Jesus said positions are prepared for people, not the other way around. People are more important to Jesus than the position they occupy. This is the exact opposite of the world's way of looking at position. For most, position defines them in their eyes and in others eyes, but for God, a position is prepared for us.
The only way to find and walk into my calling is to make knowing God, hearing God, and obeying God...keeping my eyes on God...the dream of my heart. If my goal is to encounter Him as much as possible in this age, He will certainly not let me miss the position prepared for me:
Isaiah 43:13 Indeed before the day was, I am He; And there is no one who can deliver out of My hand; I work, and who will reverse it?”
Daniel 2:21 And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.
If I live in this reality, I can celebrate God moving all around me, I can bless what He is blessing, and I can patiently wait for Him to fulfill all He has designed for me, and designed me for!
