Words

God has built all of creation on words and with words. Jesus, the Word, spoke and all things that were not, became real. At the sound of Jesus' voice, in agreement with the Father's perfect plan, the Holy Spirit moved in power to create from nothing...all based on words.

My words really matter. It is with words I reach for more of God's power to touch my life or someone else's life. My words are powerful for good or evil, and my mouth is like an artesian well flowing in power. The power of my words in agreement with God is unmistakable and can be directed in lots of ways including asking God for what I don't have: like a hunger or thirst for Him that will carry me to a new level of encounter with Him; Releasing God's presence into someone else's experience of life: like a prayer for healing or provision; Or even increasing light in the darkness: like releasing truth that, like light, draws me, or someone else, closer to the source of the word.

But the negative possibilities are numerous, too: complaining about what I see as less than God's best for me or someone else; actually slandering someone else or judging their motivations rather than the fruit of their choices; or speaking condemning words over people or circumstances, which is really an unwillingness to release the power of God through prayer in agreement with Him.

My words are like arrows. They are capable of shooting down the intentions of my enemy, but they can also come against God's intentions for my life or the lives of those around me. Knowing who my enemy is, and what God's intentions are for those around me, are keys for knowing how to aim my words.

My enemy is defined as anyone who hinders my goal. So in many ways, my goal defines my enemy. Is my goal to be successful in my career? If so, then the enemy of my goal is anyone who stands in the way of my career. Is my goal more money? If so, then anything or person that threatens to cost me money is my enemy. Is my goal more honor or recognition? If so, then my enemy is anything that steals recognition from me.

If being close to God is my goal, then anything that stands between Him and me is my enemy. Anything that tries to distract me from God, and what He has planned for me...where He is taking me, anything that speaks into my life to make my view of God and His heart for me less than what it should be...these things are my enemy.

Jesus said their is only one goal that defines...is worthy of...anyone who claims to be His:

Mark 12:30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Making God the primary goal of my life (not my career, money, recognition, or ministry), and letting a love for others flow out of that goal, is what it means to die to yourself and live in Christ. This is what it means to seek the Kingdom first and let the rest be added unto me. Any goal that is less than a progressively close relationship with God can actually become an enemy of this "One thing" life focus Jesus talked about.

The Bible says that the inward thought and the heart of man are deeper than we might think. It says that the purposes devised by my heart, what seems reasonable to me based on my goal, might actually be a shrewd scheme against God, or those He loves:

Psalm 64:6 They devise iniquities: “We have perfected a shrewd scheme.” Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep.

Evaluating my goal in life, and then declaring war on anything that stands between me and my goal, is what defines how I am going to direct my mouth. When I use my mouth for anything less than releasing the power, knowledge or hope of God into my circumstances, or the circumstances of those around me, I am actually letting myself be counter to God's purposes...I am inadvertently making myself an enemy of God, and by default, making Him my enemy. Praise Jesus for the grace He purchased with His blood! I need it to cover all my careless and outright evil words!

I want to repent of any words I have released that haven't been in agreement with Him, I want to set my heart to move forward releasing life, and not darkness!

Complaining about what people are doing, even about people or groups far from me, or as nameless and faceless as the government, will not release life. But, praying into any circumstance will release life and the power of the Genesis 1 Creator every time! Judging someone else's motivations will never be accurate, but praying for a release of light into their hearts and minds will never hurt them, and just might change their direction if it is off! I want to direct my mouth to agree with Jesus!

Psalm 64:1 Hear my voice, O God, in my meditation; Preserve my life from fear of the enemy. 2 Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked, From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity, 3 Who sharpen their tongue like a sword, And bend their bows to shoot their arrows—bitter words, 4 That they may shoot in secret at the blameless; Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear. 5 They encourage themselves in an evil matter; They talk of laying snares secretly; They say, “Who will see them?” 6 They devise iniquities: “We have perfected a shrewd scheme.” Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep. 7 But God shall shoot at them with an arrow; Suddenly they shall be wounded. 8 So He will make them stumble over their own tongue; All who see them shall flee away. 9 All men shall fear, And shall declare the work of God; For they shall wisely consider His doing. 10 The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and trust in Him. And all the upright in heart shall glory.
