Worship
In heaven, there is an amazing order of worship that flows night and day. To behold this worship order is to step into the true "Holy of Holies." The spot in the Jewish Temple where only the consecrated priest could go was called the Holy of Holies. This earthly location was a mere representation of the actual Holy of Holies, which is a real place, where real thrones sit, and a very real and glorious God presides over every detail in creation from this place.
Around the thrones are those who get to be closest to Jesus and the Father. These are called Seraphim, which mean "burning ones." They are also called "living creatures"....they are on fire, but literally alive with vibrant revelation of the Father and the Son. The Bible says they are covered with eyes. God made them to see. Day and night the Seraphim circle around God.
Because God's beauty and holiness are so transcendent...beyond anything our eyes have ever settled on...the Seraphim can only handle a glance at a time. When they take in a peek, they cry out a new thing they see in this bright holy and beautiful God. God is infinitely deep in mysterious glorious beauty. His attributes, His beauty, His love, His power, and His intoxicating personality are literally an unending flowing well there for discovery. He is infinitely passionate, infinitely loving, infinitely captivating and interesting, and He has invited all that He has made to "come and see." He holds no one at arm’s length, but to approach Him is to be consumed, too. To approach Him is to become like Him. He is a consuming fire, and to come near Him requires a wholehearted commitment to burn like He does! BUT, He is a fire that produces ALL life...the closer the Seraphim get, the more alive they become!
The Bible says after a Seraphim steals a glance of another revelation of God's infinite beauty, he covers his eyes and cries out "Holy, Holy, Holy!" The Seraphim don't just chant those same three words forever! They are declaring WHAT they see that makes God holy...wholly other than anything else in all of creation. His marvelous infinite uncreated nature is declared to the others in the room...they cry it out, overcome with emotion at what they have just discovered .
When the Seraphim release a new revelation of glory, the others in the room respond, overcome by what the Seraphim describe. This principle is true throughout all of creation. When someone draws a little nearer to God and declares what they see, it always moves others to worship.
The elders hear the Seraphim and throw their crowns, all their identity, before the feet of God and agree with the Seraphim "He IS worthy!" They are responding in agreement, adding their own worship to the response...all of heaven swells in building agreement with the truth of who God is! Day and night heaven pulses in brilliant light and sound and smells as the revelation of the never ending depth of beauty is released into the created order.
We were made to live in this reality...this is what the human heart will find true meaning, purpose, and divine entertainment in experiencing. Those around the throne don’t have to stay there day and night. It isn’t their job...it is their desire. They have tasted and seen...this is where everyone will want to be someday. Heaven will be full of diverse experiences, but we will cherish...savor...every chance we have to be in this place!
There is an antiphonal (alternating in turns) response that occurs night and day around God's throne. When David received instructions on how to reproduce this worship order on earth, it included this antiphonal response. David hired 4,000 singer and musicians to bring a little bit of this heavenly worship order to earth. Night and day, responsive worship and prayer from prophetic musicians and singers was lifted up before the throne in heaven. The singers in David’s tabernacle declared more and more of God's nature as they reached for Him with their words and beheld steadily more and more of His nature. Many of the Psalms reflect this antiphonal nature repeating and responding is evident in the words of the Psalms.
The Bible says that before Jesus returns, this Davidic worship will be re-established from the coast to the mountains...all over the globe...a "new song" of prophetic antiphonal revelation and prayer. This is happening right now in the most amazing fulfillment of prophecy that most have no idea was ever even prophesied!
Revelation 4:6-11 Before the throne there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne, were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!” Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”
Isaiah 42:10-13 Sing to the Lord a new song, And His praise from the ends of the earth, You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, You coastlands and you inhabitants of them! Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, The villages that Kedar inhabits. Let the inhabitants of Sela sing, Let them shout from the top of the mountains. Let them give glory to the Lord , And declare His praise in the coastlands. The Lord shall go forth like a mighty man; He shall stir up His zeal like a man of war. He shall cry out, yes, shout aloud; He shall prevail against His enemies.
