How to Enjoy the Word
Do you want to enjoy reading your Bible, but it just doesn't come naturally? Do you want to fall in love with the Word? There is a secret that David, the man after God's own heart knew: if you want to love and understand God's word, it starts with asking for it:
Psalm 119:33 Teach me your decrees, O LORD ; I will keep them to the end. 34 Give me understanding and I will obey your instructions; I will put them into practice with all my heart. 35 Make me walk along the path of your commands, for that is where my happiness is found. 36 Give me an eagerness for your laws rather than a love for money! 37 Turn my eyes from worthless things, and give me life through your word.
God called David "a man after His own heart." David wanted to love and understand God's words, but needed God to give it to Him.
The enemy tries to flood our hearts with guilt or discouragement when we don't automatically love reading the Bible, but God loves our desire to want to like reading the Bible, even if the actual feeling of liking it isn't there yet! Ask God to give you a love for reading the Bible regularly for a couple of weeks and see what happens! A few five second prayers a day can totally change your hunger for, and understanding of, the Bible.
