What to do for Israel
Today is the 64th anniversary of the forming of the modern state of Israel. The creation of Israel happened overnight in 1948, fulfilling the end-time prophecy in Isaiah 66:8:
Isaiah 66:8 Who has ever seen anything as strange as this? Who ever heard of such a thing? Has a nation ever been born in a single day? Has a country ever come forth in a mere moment? But by the time Jerusalem's birth pains begin, her children will be born.
Isaiah said Israel would be born before the "birth pains begin." The world has witnessed an increase in the frequency and intensity of the birth pains ever since 1948. Jesus listed the birth pains and what they would look like in Matthew 24.
Last week, Prime Minister Netanyahu formed a coalition government of unprecedented strength, rather than allow an election to happen that He was sure to win. Experts say the coalition government gives PM Netanyahu 18 months of politcal stability, and elections would have given him 4 years. Why would He choose such a powerful, but pressured, end-run? Because He knows the time is short.
Last week, at the time the coalition government was formed, Mr. Netanyahu sent a letter to Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas offering his support, for the first time publicly (see article below) , of a "two state solution." The pressure on Israel, resulting from the ongoing "Arab spring" and the threat from Iran, is intense. We are witnessing more prophecy fulfilled right now. Look at this end-time passage from Isaiah 28:
(Isa 28:14-18) Therefore, listen to this message from the LORD, you scoffing rulers in Jerusalem. You boast, "We have struck a bargain to cheat death and have made a deal to dodge the grave. The coming destruction can never touch us, for we have built a strong refuge made of lies and deception." Therefore, this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "Look! I am placing a foundation stone in Jerusalem, a firm and tested stone. It is a precious cornerstone that is safe to build on. Whoever believes need never be shaken.
I will test you with the measuring line of justice and the plumb line of righteousness. Since your refuge is made of lies, a hailstorm will knock it down. Since it is made of deception, a flood will sweep it away. I will cancel the bargain you made to cheat death, and I will overturn your deal to dodge the grave. When the terrible enemy sweeps through, you will be trampled into the ground.
Isaiah described the leaders of His people making a treaty with their enemies in an attempt to escape the pressure in the end times. This treaty is prophesied to be canceled by Israel's enemies (described in this passage of Isaiah, as well as in the book of Daniel and in Revelation). God wants His people to trust Him, not in their agreements with their enemies. We are witnessing world events described by the Bible over 2,000 years ago take place, starting with the 1948 creation of Israel. The pressure is mounting against Israel, and world events are heating up RAPIDLY. What should our response be? This is what the Bible says:
1. Turn to God with your whole heart (Joel 2). Ask God to make Himself the most important thing in your life. He will begin to do this if you will ask Him.
2. Ask God for wisdom to discern the time (Matthew 24).
3. Pray for Israel daily. Pray for wisdom for her leaders, protection for God's people. Pray for the church in Israel to be filled with power from on high. That many would give their lives to Jesus in Israel. That He will be recognized as the cornerstone Isaiah prophesied. That Israel would welcome Him back as "the one who comes in the name of the Lord." (Luke 13:35)
