Heaven and Earth

Heaven and Earth

Isaiah 66:1 Thus says the Lord : “Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest?

I Chronicles 28:2 Then King David rose to his feet and said, “Hear me, my brethren and my people: I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord , and for the footstool of our God, and had made preparations to build it.

There is a dynamic reality of the importance of agreement between heaven and earth. I believe David, the man after God's own heart, was given revelation of this reality in a unique way, as was Moses, and the disciples. The men and women selected throughout history to advance God's kingdom in remarkable ways all referred to, or were taught this important principle:

Psalms 115:16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the children of men.

Because God chose at the time of creation (Genesis 1:28) to give dominion of the earth to mankind in partnership with God, He has chosen to not operate in the "earth" apart from using a human vessel in agreement with His plans and purposes:

Ezekiel 22:30 So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one.

Jesus told His disciples that there was a connection with what they chose to bind (prohibit) and loose (allow or release) in the earth, to what was enforced by heaven. I picture a traffic cop watching cars go by, because of his position and authority to represent the government, it is up to him who gets stopped and who speeds by. If he decides to read the paper instead of watching for law breakers, the law is not enforced that day, but if he does his job, crime is held in check because the government prosecutes the tickets he writes. Jesus said heaven works on the same principle. We are God's agents in the earth. Everyone who has chosen to set Jesus as their king has authority to "bind and loose." This is why prayer is so essential. If we never stop the advance of the enemy with our words, heaven does less. The more we pray, the more God does:

Matthew 18:18-20 “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. “Again I say to you that if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”

David understood this dynamic reality, and brought amazing agreement with heaven in the building of the night and day worship movement of his generation in the Tabernacle. David's Tabernacle worship was the act of "loosing" the worship order in heaven upon the earth:

Revelation 4:8-9 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!” Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever,

I Chronicles 9:33 These are the singers, heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, who lodged in the chambers, and were free from other duties; for they were employed in that work day and night.

This plan was given directly to David by God:

I Chronicles 28:19 “All this, ” said David, “the Lord made me understand in writing, by His hand upon me, all the works of these plans.”

Like the Seraphim (living creatures) around God's throne declare new revelations of God continually, David's singers prophesied new revelations of God's beauty and majesty and plans. We can see these words in the Psalms of David, Asaph, Heman, Ethan, and the Sons of Korah. These were the night and day singers of David's generation who prophetically sang about our generation...the generation promised to see Jesus, David's heir, use Jerusalem as his foot stool.

The image of the heavens being Jesus' throne and the earth being His footstool is the ultimate expression of "Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." As the new Jerusalem comes down from heaven at the beginning of Jesus' thousand year reign (the Millennium), the seat of His throne will literally be in the heavenly city which will "hover" over the earthly Millennial Jerusalem described by Ezekiel. Jesus' feet will be planted in the earthly Jerusalem as His governmental headquarters for the renewal of all things on the earth. For 1,000 years the saints will work alongside Jesus to return the earth to a Garden of Eden, with even life blooming in the desert:

Isaiah 35:1-10 The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them, And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose; It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice, Even with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it, The excellence of Carmel and Sharon. They shall see the glory of the Lord , The excellency of our God. Strengthen the weak hands, And make firm the feeble knees. Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.” Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert. The parched ground shall become a pool, And the thirsty land springs of water; In the habitation of jackals, where each lay, There shall be grass with reeds and rushes. A highway shall be there, and a road, And it shall be called the Highway of Holiness. The unclean shall not pass over it, But it shall be for others. Whoever walks the road, although a fool, Shall not go astray. No lion shall be there, Nor shall any ravenous beast go up on it; It shall not be found there. But the redeemed shall walk there, And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, And come to Zion with singing, With everlasting joy on their heads. They shall obtain joy and gladness, And sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Once the renewal is complete, the heavenly city will be on earth. God with man has always been God's intention. He called it "very good."

Revelation 21:2-3 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

This is Jesus' end-time plan...the renewal of all things. When David agreed with heaven in starting night and day worship in Jerusalem, all of Israel was blessed and prosperous. Righteousness flourished and idol worship ceased. Building night and day worship and prayer in our city is the act of "loosing" what is happening in heaven, night and day, on earth in a way that "God's kingdom will come and His will be done!"
