Night and Day
Night and day worship is God's sovereign design for our agreement with the return of Jesus. God doesn't need mankind to do anything, but He has chosen for mankind to be His partner...His royal family.
This is the story of the Bible. God with man. It is why God put Adam in the Garden. It is why Jesus was willing to become a man to save us, and it is the glorious conclusion of the soon coming shaking of all things.
But, God didn't just put us in an aquarium to watch us like pets. He desires we partner with Him as actual sons and daughters...a royal family in love, fellowship, and purpose. Everything belongs to God, but mankind has been authorized to be His representatives in the earth. We have been given responsibility...authority...in the earth:
Psalm 115: 15 May you be blessed by the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. 16 The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the children of men.
Genesis 1: 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
God gave "dominion" to man over the earth. When God gave man the earth, He meant it. If you look at everything God does in the earth, He always works in partnership, or through, people in agreement with Him. Adam violated his partnership with God when he rebelled in the Garden, but God is faithful. Not only did God pay the price for our rebellion, He has never violated His partnership with man.
He invites us to agree with Him, and when we do, we become His very vessels to carry His power in the earth. Noah agreed with Him at the time of the flood, Moses at the time of Exodus, Gideon, Samuel, David, Daniel, Cyrus, Mary, Joseph, Paul...the list is soooo long of men and women who have agreed with God and partnered with Him in accomplishing His grand purpose of restoring His royal family...God with man. It will always be this way. We know their names because they changed the earth.
Jesus said that when we abide in (talk to) God, God abides (responds) in us. He said we are like branches who can do nothing disconnected from the vine. But also, God chooses to do nothing apart from us in the earth. God desires to be with us. It is why He made us. This is why David's heart...His "one thing" desire...was so pleasing to God. David is a man after God's own heart:
Psalm 27: 4 One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.
David's desire was also God's desire. This was demonstrated in David's tabernacle...the night and day worship movement in David's generation was the fullness of this equally yoked relationship of love between David and God. David said "I want to give you all my love" and God said "perfect, I've always felt this way about you, too!" David got his desire met when God gave him the design of the tabernacle worship order:
1 Chronicles 28:19 “All this, ” said David, “the Lord made me understand in writing, by His hand upon me, all the works of these plans.”
This worship order God established through David's agreement on earth was the realization...or agreement on earth...of what always happens in heaven, day and night:
Revelation 4: 8 The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!” 9 Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, 10 the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying: 11 “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”
God is worshiped in heaven night and day. When those closest to Him, the Seraphim, cry out new attributes of His holiness...when they reveal the Father in their continuous song (prophetic singing), the men (elders) and angels around the throne enter into adoration. The revelation of who God is causes real worship to happen...He IS worthy...seeing it causes spontaneous agreement! This is what happens in heaven all the time. When David agreed with heaven, He brought heaven to earth. This has always been the desire of God: His Kingdom come, His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
This is the model God used in delivering Israel from Egypt through Moses as a human partner. This is the model God used to usher in the new covenant, and it is the promised agreement that will happen in the time of the final judgment.
Paul said that Israel contended day and night for Messiah to come:
Acts 26: 6 And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made by God to our fathers. 7 To this promise our twelve tribes, earnestly serving God night and day, hope to attain. For this hope’s sake, King Agrippa, I am accused by the Jews.
He wasn't wrong. Jesus came in response to night and day prayer:
Luke 2:36 Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; 37 and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem.
Worship is really prayer. Singing words to God is really just an enjoyable way to pray. Night and day worship is the fullness of abiding in God. Jesus brought the down payment of heaven to earth with His arrival as a baby. This happened in response to night and day prayer, and He will come again to bring heaven to earth in full in response to night and day prayer. As we respond to God's desire to abide in us with our agreement night and day, He will come!
Luke 18: 7 And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? 8 I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?”
