Blood Moons
A friend of mine who is a teacher asked me for some info regarding the blood moons (the next one happens tomorrow morning around 6 am). I have also had some others ask for this same type of info, so I thought I would post what I wrote.
Explanation of the Blood Moons and how they relate to the Bible:
A blood moon is a TOTAL lunar eclipse. It is called a blood moon, because the moon turns red in the shadow of the earth. That is because the atmosphere of the earth filters out certain hues of light leaving the reds, oranges, and pinks. Imagine a sunset at night or a sunrise in the morning. If you were on the moon during the blood moon and looked at the earth, it would look like fire all around the earth. That is because you would be seeing all the sunsets and sunrises at the same time, and the only light that can get to the moon is that sunset/sunrise light. The earth is blocking the rest of the light.
Lunar eclipses occur approximately twice a year, but not all are TOTAL eclipses. Total eclipses are somewhat rare. The blood moons everyone is talking about, called a "tetrad", are even more rare. A tetrad means four TOTAL eclipses in a row!
A look at history shows that not only are tetrads REALLY rare, the pattern they occur in is really weird too! From 1600 AD until 1900 AD there were NO tetrads, but from 1900 until now there have been 6 tetrads!. We are in the middle of the seventh tetrad since they began the current series. Seven is a very important number in the Bible. It means complete.
Of the seven tetrads to occur from 1900 through the one we are in now, THREE of the tetrads have been perfectly timed with very important dates in Israel, called feast days. In the 21st century (the century we are in now), the only time a tetrad will land on Jewish feast days is the one we are in right now from 2014-2015. In the 20th century, the tetrad event only occurred twice on Jewish feast days: in 1949 & 1950, then in 1967 & 1968.
Big things happen in Israel and the world when Jewish feast days have corresponded with the tetrad. In 1949-50 and 1967-68 the 4 total Lunar eclipses occurred in succession on the Feasts of Passover and Tabernacles two years in a row. This will happen for the third time in 2014-2015.
In 1949-50, the dates of the blood moons were 13th April & 7th October, 1949 and 2nd April and 26th September 1950. Israel became a nation again at Pentecost 1948 after not having existed as a nation for almost 1900 years! As a result of the Declaration of Independence, Isreal entered into a war for independence against her Arab neighbors. Hostilities ended in the 1949 Armistice Agreements. This fulfilled a VERY important prophecy related to the return of Jesus:
Isaiah 66:8-9 Who has heard such a thing? Who has seen such things? Shall the earth be made to give birth in one day? Or shall a nation be born at once? For as soon as Zion was in labor, She gave birth to her children. 9 Shall I bring to the time of birth, and not cause delivery?" says the LORD. "Shall I who cause delivery shut up the womb?" says your God.
God told Isaiah that once the nation was born again, He would cause the complete delivery of the nation. That means the end of all these events that are prophesied begin with the re-birth of Israel as a nation, and end with the salvation of all of Israel…they will all come to know Jesus when all the prophetic end time events are finished:
Romans 11:24-27 For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree? 25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: "THE DELIVERER WILL COME OUT OF ZION, AND HE WILL TURN AWAY UNGODLINESS FROM JACOB; 27 FOR THIS IS MY COVENANT WITH THEM, WHEN I TAKE AWAY THEIR SINS."
This is one of the things we are supposed to be praying for, that all of Israel would believe Jesus is the promised Messiah they are waiting for!
The second 20th century tetrad occurred on 24th April & 18th October, 1967; then 13th April & 6th October, 1968. The second tetrad surrounded the return of the Old City of Jerusalem to Jewish control on 7th June 1967 (also Pentecost of that year!).
Israel having control of Jerusalem is very important prophetically. All of the end time prophecies require Israel have control of Jerusalem, and even more importantly, the temple mount. Right now, we can see Jerusalem is the major point of division between Israel and the Arab neighbors who want Israel gone.
The third tetrad that we are in now began on April 15, which was during the week long Jewish Passover. The next blood moon happens tomorrow, October 8th, 2014, on the Jewish Festival of Shelters, or Sukkot, as it is called in Israel. The remaining moons in this tetrad will occur next Passover, and during the Festival of Shelters in 2015, on April 4, 2015 and September 28, 2015.
This current tetrad began in the middle of very intense peace negotiations between Israel and Palestine, her Arab neighbors who also claim the land that God gave to Israel. The negotiations are focusing on the splitting of Jerusalem. This is a major prophecy in the Bible, that Israel and her neighbors would share Jerusalem:
Revelation 11:1-3 Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, "Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. 2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. 3 And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth."
So, what we are witnessing now in the news is directly related to the “sharing” of Jerusalem between Jewish people and non-Jewish people, or gentiles. Jesus’ friend John was told it would end with the non-Jewish nations taking over Jerusalem for 42 months. That is 3.5 Jewish years, or 1,260 days. The Bible says that at the end of that time, the time that the enemies of Israel take over Israel, it will be 1,260 days until Jesus returns.
This all ties together if you look at the prophecy in Psalm 118. Jesus said He would not return until Jewish leaders invited Him to be their Messiah on the temple mount as prophesied in Psalm 118. The writer of Psalm 118 prophesied that Israel would trust in a man to be her messiah rather than Jesus, the chief cornerstone that was rejected in 32 ad. Psalm 118 tells the story in advance of:
1. the soon-coming 7-year peace treaty that marks the beginning of Israel putting herself in the trust of a man,
2. the breaking of the peace treaty that leaves Israel “surrounded by her enemies like bees”
3. The final result of this worst moment in Israel’s future being to put the trust in the cornerstone once rejected
4. The final statement is the Israel cry to the true messiah “Save us, you ARE the blessed one in the name of the Lord”. This blessing comes from the temple mount…the house of the Lord:
Take the time to really read this passage...we are quickly approaching this reality in the earth as you can clearly see in the news as the amassing and coalescing of armies in this part of the world occurs:
Psalms 118:8-26 It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in man. (9) It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in princes. (10) All nations surrounded me, But in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. (11) They surrounded me, Yes, they surrounded me; But in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. (12) They surrounded me like bees; They were quenched like a fire of thorns; For in the name of the LORD I will destroy them. (13) You pushed me violently, that I might fall, But the LORD helped me. (14) The LORD is my strength and song, And He has become my salvation. (15) The voice of rejoicing and salvation Is in the tents of the righteous; The right hand of the LORD does valiantly. (16) The right hand of the LORD is exalted; The right hand of the LORD does valiantly. (17) I shall not die, but live, And declare the works of the LORD. (18) The LORD has chastened me severely, But He has not given me over to death. (19) Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, And I will praise the LORD. (20) This is the gate of the LORD, Through which the righteous shall enter. (21) I will praise You, For You have answered me, And have become my salvation. (22) The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. (23) This was the LORD's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. (24) This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. (25) Save now, I pray, O LORD; O LORD, I pray, send now prosperity. (26) Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! We have blessed you from the house of the LORD.
Understanding this story written in advance is key to understanding what is happening in the earth right now. Jesus confirmed Israel would not see Him again until they fulfilled this prophecy:
Luke 13:34-35 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! (35) See! Your house is left to you desolate; and assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, 'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' "
You can actually see the last desperate throes of satan in his attempts to keep Israel from controlling the temple mount in the news right now, if you will look. Satan is quickly losing the battle for the temple mount and, as prophesied. God is marking all of this with signs in the heavens. Each tetrad of blood moons has marked Israel getting closer and closer to sending her leaders to the top of the temple mount to invite Jesus back…first in 1949, when Israel was reborn and established, then in 1967, when Israel got control of Jerusalem, and now in 2014, as a peace deal is being worked out.
God promised that the moon turning red would mark these events:
Joel 2:30-32 "And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. 31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the LORD. 32 And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the LORD has said, Among the remnant whom the LORD calls.
So, all these events are very intense, but they are all indicating that Jesus is returning and many people will be saved before He returns. He is coming back when Israel invites Him back. It is important for us to find out what Jesus’ plans are for us as His return unfolds. Some main things we can do are:
1. Read our Bibles and ask the Holy Spirit to teach us about the end time plans.
2. Pray for Israel to be saved by accepting Jesus as Messiah
3. Pray for the people of the earth to be saved as God shows His wonders in the sky and through us!
