As We Wait
Psalm 37:34 Wait on the LORD and keep His way...
Strength rises as we wait on the Lord. Encounter happens if we wait on the Lord. Circumstance changes if we wait on the Lord. Joy increases as we wait on the Lord. Throughout the Bible we hear of wars won, dead raised, sick healed, oceans split...all from waiting on the Lord.
This is part of our relationship with God. He desires us to wait on Him. God invented relationships. He didn't learn anything about them from us, we learned everything about them from Him. God doesn't ask us to do anything in our relationship with Him that He didn't do first.
The enemy often times whispers in our ear that God requires a lot from us, and that He doesn't notice what we do. This is a lie, God desires for us to be with Him, to choose a relationship with Him. He is equally invested in doing whatever He calls us to do. He waits on us.
Whenever I am willing to quiet my heart and direct my attention to God, I find He has been waiting on me. He hasn't been waiting for me to do anything for Him, just to spend time with me! He is a good father, and He is always waiting for you to take a break and tell Him what is on your heart. He DESIRES to spend time with you.
My son's wait on me to help them, or to praise them, or to provide for them, and sometimes just to listen to them. I like doing all those things, but I really like to listen to them.
God is a good Father. He loves to listen to me. He waits all day to hear me direct my attention to Him. He, the creator of everything, is willing to let me call Him MY father. He could use any name He likes, but He has chosen to be OUR God, or OUR Father.
In Revelation 4, we see a picture of God's throne. He could have set up His throne room any way He liked, but this is what He chose: to surround Himself with angels (the Seraphim), and people (the elders). There are 24 elders mentioned in Revelation 4. 24 is a picture...24 is not enough for such a huge God! 24 covers every hour of the day...24 represents God's continual desire to sit in front of ANYONE who is wise (elders represent wisdom) to choose God as where they want to sit...to wait in His presence.
God wants us to know that He loves our attention. He has chosen to draw anyone willing to sit before Him right before His throne. If you want to give God what He really wants, give Him your attention. Wait on Him with your heart and your words towards Him. Tell Him "here I am, God" and then wait to hear what He might say to your heart, either through His "thoughts on your thoughts," or through His written word. You will be surprised how much He wants to be with you if you will settle down and wait on Him like He waits on you!
Revelation 4: 4 Around the throne were twenty-four thrones, and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads.
