God of Our Strength
Psalm 43:2 For You are the God of my strength...
Nothing God calls me to be can be achieved simply from within me. Determination cannot produce holiness in my life, neither can discipline. Meditation won't produce lasting peace, and no temporary pleasure will produce lasting joy in a heart made for eternity...in fact, no good thing like patience, peace, love, joy, etc. Can be produced in a full measure apart from God.
Psalm 43 declares He "is the God of our strength." This means He is the source of power in our lives to produce every desirable result.
Our natural fallen mind set, which is fueled by lies from the enemy, is that it is up to us to live up to God's holy standard. The implication in this wrong thinking is that when we fall short, we have failed God somehow. This is a lie.
God assignment to you and to me is to learn to draw near to Him, to give Him our agreement (our willingness), and to learn to draw on Him for the rest. As we behold who He is, we become more like Him. When we fall short, and then contemplate our fall, He celebrates it! We are one step closer to truth.
When our desire is to live in agreement with God, He celebrates EVERY movement of our heart towards Him. Like a dad watching a child learning to walk. He understands immaturity. He is looking for desire.
When we set our heart to "make ourselves presentable to Him" then we are going astray. It is impossible to make ourselves presentable to Him, if you have accepted Jesus death as payment for your sin, He has already done that! Taking it upon myself to build a better Tom Stolz is like a 5-year old refusing food and clothing from mom and dad, because they don't want to be a burden! That would not please mom and dad...it would really make them worry about their child's grasp of truth!
Let God be the God of your strength. Let His light and truth guide you to more of Him. Give Him what you have: your willingness...all of it, and He will give you all you need of His power! We give Him our willingness with our words and by setting our heart to not be satisfied with anything less than being fully in love with God!
John 15: 5 "Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. 6 Anyone who does not remain in me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered into a pile to be burned. 7 But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!
