Heaven is Coming Here
The Bible says heaven is coming to earth. When Jesus returns, we aren't going up, heaven is coming down. If you have trusted Jesus as your savior and given leadership of your life to Him, then you have some real estate in an eternal city called "the New Jerusalem." This city is where the people you love that have gone before you actually live right now. Don't be tempted to think it is symbolic, the actual measurements of the city are in the Bible...and it is huge: 1,500 miles high, 1,500 miles wide, and 1,500 miles tall. It is big enough for everyone in God's family to live comfortably:
Revelation 21:10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, 11 having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. 12 Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: 13 three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. 14 Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. 15 And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. 16 The city is laid out as a square; its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed: twelve thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal.
You might wonder, how will I get around such a large city?! If my best friend lives on the other side, will I be able to get there? The answer is yes!
The "how" is actually even more amazing: not only will we have a perfect home in an eternal city on a Garden of Eden-like earth, we will have a new kind of body!
1 Corinthians 15:46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the earth, made of dust; the second Man is the Lord from heaven. 48 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. 49 And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man.
The Bible says that our new bodies that we will get when Jesus returns will be just like Jesus new body after the resurrection. "Flying" - Jesus could "be" anywhere (he walked through the walls into a prayer meeting to show His disciples He was alive. "Eating"- He ate and drank in His new body. He hugged and touched His disciples. "Super" human - He still had a mouth and arms and legs. Paul said our bodies would have all of the amazing supernatural qualities of a spiritual body and all of the amazing qualities of a strong and ever healthy physical body combined!
This is the promise to every redeemed person. God's wants us to set our eyes on these things as we enter this intense time. Knowing where this is all going gives us confidence to have joy as everything on earth is shaken. I am just scratching the surface. There is so much information in the Bible about what we will do, how we will look, dress, meet...
Jesus' plan to make all things new centers around us first!
Revelation 21: 3 I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, "Look, God's home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them.4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever."
5 And the one sitting on the throne said, "Look, I am making everything new!" And then he said to me, "Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true." 6 And he also said, "It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End. To all who are thirsty I will give freely from the springs of the water of life. 7 All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.
8 "But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."
