Faith and Fear
Faith and fear are both spiritual "tethers." Both connect you to the object you are focused on. Faith connects you to what you hope for, fear connects you to what you dread. That is why the Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom...it connects you to God:
Psalms 111:10 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments. His praise endures forever.
Satan attempts to use ungodly fear to drive us into the very things we don't want. The reason this works is because of the dominion we have been given in the earth...God gives great dignity to our choices, especially as they are expressed with our words. Satan attempts to incite us to speak negatively about our situation in order to take us deeper into darkness...he tries to keep our eyes on the thing we fear.
Fear or anxiety about what "might happen", if we give in to the scheme and begin the internal conversation of how bad it will be, is the very tool satan uses to get us to walk there! Everyone goes where they are looking.
Psalms 34:11-13 Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord . Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, And your lips from speaking deceit.
Your internal conversation is directing your life in powerful ways. When the internal conversation becomes the external conversation you are having, then you are exercising your dominion on the earth, whether you realize it or not! It takes the same energy to pray as it does to complain...one directs you to blessing, and the other to more pain...for real. Victory today really depends on the conversation you are having inside, because whatever is happening inside will eventually make it outside:
Matthew 12:34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
If you don't guard your heart... resisting evil fears, anxiety, and complaints... you will find yourself running headlong into the very things you dread:
James 3:2-5 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body. Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
We guard our hearts first by taking every thought captive, and by evaluating our emotions...we resist the devil and cause Him to flee. Then, we guard our internal and external conversation by choosing to use our words to bless and not curse either ourselves or others.
This takes God's help. It takes God to love God! When you see your internal conversation start to take a turn towards darkness, catch that negative emotion by the tail, isolate it...say "I gotcha"...take it before the Lord and say you don't want that in there, in Jesus name. Then thank God in faith that the name of Jesus is effective for war! Your tongue will then be turning the ship back towards God because your eyes will be back on God. We all go where we are looking!
This is an amazing way to consider Job's story! Satan enticed God to allow Job to be afflicted, and God allowed Satan to touch Job...but look at Job's confession...he had been fearing the very things God allowed to come into his life:
Job 3:25 For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me.
If we insist on gazing on what we fear, God is faithful to eventually give it to us...not because He gives up on us, but because He is faithful to demonstrate that He is bigger than what we fear. We can save Him and us a lot of the time and trouble by conquering that fear before He has to give us the live demonstration! Either way, He is a good Father who wants us to keep our eyes on Him:
Job 42:5-7 “I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You. Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes.” And so it was, after the Lord had spoken these words to Job, that the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.
Many are afraid of Tribulation, because they won't take the time to understand it, and the glory in it. Already, fear has people complaining about it. This is a tool of the enemy to inflict more pain and confusion. The key to changing your internal conversation about the prophetic fulfillments that are very negative is to instead of denying or fearing them, to start using your tongue to say "teach me, God, about what you are doing in this hour"...this will save you MUCH pain in the years to come. Rather than fear fables about what "might happen" find out what WILL happen. Then you can bless God by agreeing with Him about the glorious thing He is doing. God is going to demonstrate His victory over the tribulation either way...you can do it the easy way or the hard way. You decide!
Matthew 24:45-47 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing. Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods.
