Fufilment
Right now, the first stirrings of this passage coming true can be visibly seen in the earth:
Isaiah 30:27-32 Behold, the name of the Lord comes from afar, Burning with His anger, And His burden is heavy; His lips are full of indignation, And His tongue like a devouring fire. His breath is like an overflowing stream, Which reaches up to the neck, To sift the nations with the sieve of futility; And there shall be a bridle in the jaws of the people, Causing them to err.
You shall have a song As in the night when a holy festival is kept, And gladness of heart as when one goes with a flute, To come into the mountain of the Lord , To the Mighty One of Israel. The Lord will cause His glorious voice to be heard, And show the descent of His arm, With the indignation of His anger And the flame of a devouring fire, With scattering, tempest, and hailstones. For through the voice of the Lord Assyria will be beaten down, As He strikes with the rod. And in every place where the staff of punishment passes, Which the Lord lays on him, It will be with tambourines and harps; And in battles of brandishing He will fight with it.
This is describing the end times, when Jesus begins to execute His plan to drive evil off the planet and begin remaking the nations, the land, and the atmosphere back to what God originally called "very good."
God has always worked out His plans through physical processes...He called mankind on a physical earth...tending and keeping it in partnership with Him..."very good." The end time plans are a process that require "participation." This passage is describing the participation of EVERYONE whether they intend it or not, in His plans. Some will be a part of the "futility" and some will willingly be a part of the song!
The song Isaiah described is night and the day....as the "keeping" of a holy festival. It is an intentional song, and it is marking the blows of judgment by tamborines and harps...by guitars and drums and pianos and songs...Jesus and His angelic army moving in the heavens to the beat of our agreement. This is real, not symbolic.
As you watch "futility" literally nightly on the news, behind the scenes, out of the way of the news, there is a new song rising up, as in the night...marking the timing. It is just beginning. The orchestra is just warming up. The musicians and directors are just finding their chairs and getting their assignments.
The futility is going to a whole new level, but so is the song...in the night...as when a holy festival is kept.

Matthew 11:12-17 And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. And if you are willing to receive it, he is Elijah who is to come. He who has ears to hear, let him hear! “But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions, and saying: ‘We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not lament.’
Now is the time to take the second heavens by force...with spiritual violence, not with futile physical fighting...in fact, it has been that time for over 2,000 years...But by the signs of the times, we will be that generation one way or the other:
Zephaniah 1:14-18 The great day of the Lord is near; It is near and hastens quickly. The noise of the day of the Lord is bitter; There the mighty men shall cry out. That day is a day of wrath, A day of trouble and distress, A day of devastation and desolation, A day of darkness and gloominess, A day of clouds and thick darkness, A day of trumpet and alarm Against the fortified cities And against the high towers. “I will bring distress upon men, And they shall walk like blind men, Because they have sinned against the Lord ; Their blood shall be poured out like dust, And their flesh like refuse.” Neither their silver nor their gold Shall be able to deliver them In the day of the Lord ’s wrath; But the whole land shall be devoured By the fire of His jealousy, For He will make speedy riddance Of all those who dwell in the land.
Zephaniah 2:1-3 Gather yourselves together, yes, gather together, O undesirable nation, Before the decree is issued, Or the day passes like chaff, Before the Lord ’s fierce anger comes upon you, Before the day of the Lord ’s anger comes upon you! Seek the Lord , all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the Lord ’s anger.
There is much to be done in the gathering together, seeking righteousness as a community, and seeking humility. What looks futile, is not, but what looks strong, is futile. This is God's economy.
