Jesus Is Coming. Peace Is Coming.
I heard the Lord say this am that everything is wound so tight right now. We need to be careful to let Jesus unwind us. Even as we meet together with friends and family, this season can bring an extra measure of anxiety.
I saw hearts breaking and people giving up because it seems hopeless.
The hopelessness and tension and anxiety doesn't have to be our portion.
Jesus came to bring some very specific things to Earth: peace and Goodwill!
Luke 2:12 “And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
14 “Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.”
16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger.
This really happened. This baby grew up and showed us how to live in peace and experience the goodness of God.
He is coming again as a King. Right now, the tension, anxiety, and sorrow are evidence of His coming. The 'prince and powers of the air' (the forces of darkness resisting Jesus) are force feeding people what are called the 'cares of this life.' These temporary and fleeting anxieties are resisting the peace and Goodwill of God available to all of us just by doing what the shepherds did: come see this king who waits for us to visit Him!
Luke 21:25 “And there will be strange signs in the sun, moon, and stars. And here on earth the nations will be in turmoil, perplexed by the roaring seas and strange tides.
26 People will be terrified at what they see coming upon the earth, for the powers in the heavens will be shaken.
27 Then everyone will see the Son of Man coming on a cloud with power and great glory.
28 So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!”
29 Then he gave them this illustration: “Notice the fig tree, or any other tree.
30 When the leaves come out, you know without being told that summer is near.
31 In the same way, when you see all these things taking place, you can know that the Kingdom of God is near.
32 I tell you the truth, this generation will not pass from the scene until all these things have taken place.
33 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
34“Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware,
35 like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth.
36 Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.”
All these things are happening right now. If we will look up, past the cares of this life, and see what is really happening all around us, the peace of this King, who left all of His divine privilege to rescue humanity gently, in voluntary love...in peace, not forcing anyone out of their bondage... He will fill us with peace. You can simply say "Jesus, let me feel your peace" and get a taste. You can ask, seek, and knock on this King's door as much as you want.
Matthew 7:7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.
8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
9 “You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead?
10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not!
11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
Regardless of your sin (Jesus invited sinners to ask!) You can ask for His help and His spirit. If you are willing to let Him lead you out of anxiety, fear, sin, and sorrow over time... If you will yield your worry and heaviness to Him, He will begin to help you get free! You don't have to be wound tight ready to pop... You can unwind if you will let Him give you His peace. Pretending everything is ok is way different than FEELING peace.
That is my prayer for you today: that you would feel the love of Jesus and the peace that exists outside of circumstance.
Jesus is coming. Peace is coming.
Philippians 4:5 Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.
6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
