Confident in God
I want to be a man that can walk through any situation confident that God will not let me sink, but so often, the wind and the waves distract me long enough to let fear get a grip on my heart.
Once I start letting fear do the talking, my heart gets restless, and I start going through my options. To trust in anything but God is a plan to prolong the struggle. The whole point of living is to allow the One with all the knowledge, love, and power...the one who individually fashioned my heart with a plan and a purpose in mind...to restore my spirit, mind, and eventually my body, back to Himself...forever. If Romans 8:28 is really true, that God works ALL things for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose, and God is really God, knowing everything and powerful to change anything, then the truth is no matter what circumstance may say, I have it made as long as I choose Him like He has already chosen me. So the point of living really is to learn to walk by faith in Him, and not by eyesight. This is how God restores my soul (my mind, will, and emotion) back to Himself.
In this amazing process, the enemy of my soul, satan, also the enemy of God, wants to break my locked gaze with my Father. Satan wants to be my father so he can lead me away from his enemy, God. The only power He has in the situation is the power to lie to me. The feeling of fear is often a lie about who God is, and His ability or commitment to uphold me. This fear is designed to take my eyes off God and place them on the wind and the waves...the circumstances around me that appear out of control. Fear of anything but God Himself is a lie about my Father and His ability or willingness to protect me.
In Psalm 33, God gives a clear path to confidence that He has His "eye on you." There is a difference between God seeing you, and God having His "eye on you." If you are a parent, you know this. Imagine being at the park on a busy saturday afternoon. You see a little sea of kids, all swirling around, climbing, jumping, swinging, playing games with each other, then breaking back apart, rejoining in other groups. You "see" all the kids, but your "eye is on" your kids. The ones you are in relationship with. In Psalm 33, God says the same thing. He is saying " if you want to live in the confidence that My eye is always on you, choose me as your first and only plan. Set your hope on my mercy. Let ME be your help and your shield. Wait on ME in quiet confidence." Basically, God is saying "let me be your Father, and I will." Because He is the perfect Father, His eye is always on His children. Because of free will...because of love...we choose whether or not we want this Father, or another.
No matter what I am facing today, I can let God be my Father and live in the confidence that His eye is always on me! I choose Him as my Father by telling the spirit of fear to "leave in Jesus' name," and choosing hope in God as my plan, moving forward at the sound of His voice alone.
Psalm 33:13 The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. 14 From the place of His dwelling He looks On all the inhabitants of the earth; 15 He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. 16 No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. 17 A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. 18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, 19 To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine. 20 Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. 21 For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. 22 Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.
