Shake Everything
Joel 3:16 The Lord also will roar from Zion, And utter His voice from Jerusalem; The heavens and earth will shake; But the Lord will be a shelter for His people, And the strength of the children of Israel.
God has promised to shake everything that can be shaken. In His mercy, He will stir up the earth to allow man to be awakened...to choose Him as their safety if they might. It is His hand moving in power that reflects His great mercy. God does not change. His eternal love is in perfect agreement with His infinite justice. There isn't a justice-seeking God of the Old Testament, and a loving God of the New Testament. There is God, and He does not change!
God's plan for the earth and mankind, spelled out through the entire Bible is one of bringing back together what the enemy, in partnership with people, separated. God made us to be with Him, but mankind's rebellion at the invitation of the enemy separated our family. Jesus came to make all things new, to bring everything in Heaven and on earth back together again (Revelation 21). God's desire is that ALL of His people live with Him forever, but many have rejected His plan for salvation, or half-heartedly "placed their bet" on Him, but withheld their heart.
How would a good parent, intent on saving their kids, but also committed to not violating their free will, rescue their children from the error of their own choices? Wouldn't they use the least intense means possible to wake their kid up? If the object of their love wouldn't listen, wouldn't they, in their mercy, turn up the volume, because of love?
This is God's end-time plan, this is why He shakes everything that can be shaken. For love...love for those who are wandering astray from His perfect plan for them, and love for those who are His, and His commitment to justice for them. Everything God does emanates from perfect love AND perfect justice. He doesn't turn off one to exercise the other. Because of God's love, God's justice, God's mercy, the enemy's rage, and man's rebellion, the earth will be shaken. We are seeing the baby beginning of it even now. But God has not left us without a sure safe place!
There is one place that cannot be shaken: the place where God stands! God will not shake Himself, or anyone standing with Him! The closer you are to Him, the less you will feel the shaking. You draw near to Him with His help! He longs to place people on the sure rock that cannot be shaken, "under the shadow of His wings." Whole-hearted, complete abandon to God is what it means to be so close to Him that you are under His wings, the place where circumstance bows to truth.
There is only one way to whole-heartedness. You can't earn it, you weren't born whole-hearted, and you can't read your way into it. It takes God to love God. You can only decide to point your desire to Him and then ask Him to give you more. Step by step. I am no expert, but I have tasted and seen a little bit, and I am hooked? I ask Him, several times a day...quick 5 to 10 second prayers. God bring me close, give me more, help me to give you more of my heart. Step by step, I feel Him drawing me near, whispering His assurance of His presence, His protection. I see Him arrange my circumstances...not always for temporary comfort, but always for more of His eternal love to pour into my life. This protection is available to all willing to humble themselves and ask Him for it!
Psalm 62:1 I wait quietly before God, for my victory comes from him. 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will never be shaken.
Psalm 63:6 I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night. 7 Because you are my helper, I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings. 8 I cling to you; your strong right hand holds me securely.
