The Light of Life

You are alive, like a tree. The soil you plant yourself in determines how well you grow. Just like a tree, you need light. The Bible says in John 1 that Jesus is the source of our "life light."

A tree reaches for the light with its branches. The higher or wider a tree reaches, the deeper its roots grow. When you reach for more light, more of God, your roots in God grow deeper, too!

When something blocks the light to a tree, it send its branches out for more light. Trees will grow in all sorts of strange ways just to get more light. We are supposed to be the same way in our relationship with God.

The Bible says God gives "food to the hungry" (Psalm 146). If you reach for more of God in your life, you demonstrate your hunger to God. That is when you get more. God created everything with words, and John 1 says Jesus is "the Word"...He is the one who, at the Father's desire, spoke everything into existence. In His kingdom made with words, you reach for more light with your words. "God, give me more hunger for you, in Jesus' name.". This is reaching for more light...this is demonstrating your hunger. With the same measure you go after hunger, you will be satisfied in that hunger. If you want more of God in your life, you simply get hungrier by asking for it.

The Bible says it pleases God to "give you the kingdom." But this is the thing: for love to exist, free will must exist, too. God will never force you deeper in your relationship with Him. If you want more, because of His vast love, you have to start the conversation. Like any good father teaching the child He delights in to come to Him, if you take one step, He takes 10! He delights in you...sticky hands, dirty face, runny nose, and all!

Matthew 7:7 "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

9 "You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? 10 Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! 11 So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.
