Assyria
In the Bible, end time Assyria IS end time Harlot Babylon (Assyria is what is now known as Iraq, where Babylon was located). Assyria was a superpower God used to oppress Israel. End time Assyria will be the last superpower God will use to oppress Israel, even though it will at first pretend to be her protector.
The "king of Assyria" is the antichrist. There is so much information in the Bible about this man, and what God intends to accomplish by releasing him to his desire.
The world clamors for a man to fix the problems, and the antichrist will offer himself as the man to fix them. Rather than put their trust in the only one who can fix anything, Jesus, many will turn to the one who appears to be the strongest man, despite his arrogance and foolishness. Because the antichrist is deceptive and ruthless, many will be fooled by his smooth words, despite all evidence to the contrary. This man is a war monger, but claims to love peace, he is a liar but claims to be the only truthful one. He claims to be transparent, but he is operating deceitfully. God is using him, like a tool, to accomplish the end of the "indignation of Israel"...the final week (7 years)...the 70th week of Daniel. This passage from Isaiah 10 is all about this. Wherever you see "Assyria" you could accurately insert the word "antichrist and his nation, the end time Harlot Babylon":
Isaiah 10:5-27 “What sorrow awaits Assyria, the rod of my anger. I use it as a club to express my anger. I am sending Assyria against a godless nation, against a people with whom I am angry (this is Israel). Assyria will plunder them, trampling them like dirt beneath its feet. But the king of Assyria (antichrist) will not understand that he is my tool; his mind does not work that way. His plan is simply to destroy, to cut down nation after nation. He will say, ‘Each of my princes (middle eastern leaders opposed to Israel that he is secretly helping) will soon be a king. We destroyed Calno just as we did Carchemish (Syria). Hamath (Hama, Syria) fell before us as Arpad (Syria) did. And we destroyed Samaria (this is now known as the West Bank, where the Israelis and Palestinians are arguing about US peacekeeping forces being stationed there to keep the peace. The US is proposing a time-limited US led peacekeeping force be stationed here to assure a secure Israel, while Israel is trying to place her own troops here, which Palestinians oppose) just as we did Damascus (Syria). Yes, we have finished off many a kingdom whose gods were greater than those in Jerusalem and Samaria. So we will defeat Jerusalem and her gods, just as we destroyed Samaria with hers.’” After the Lord has used the king of Assyria (antichrist) to accomplish his purposes on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, he will turn against the king of Assyria and punish him—for he is proud and arrogant. He boasts, “By my own powerful arm I have done this. With my own shrewd wisdom I planned it. I have broken down the defenses of nations and carried off their treasures. I have knocked down their kings like a bull. I have robbed their nests of riches and gathered up kingdoms as a farmer gathers eggs. No one can even flap a wing against me or utter a peep of protest.”
(But this is what God says about antichrist:)
But can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a rod strike unless a hand moves it? Can a wooden cane walk by itself? Therefore, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, will send a plague among Assyria’s proud troops, and a flaming fire will consume its glory. The Lord , the Light of Israel, will be a fire; the Holy One will be a flame. He will devour the thorns and briers with fire, burning up the enemy in a single night. The Lord will consume Assyria’s glory (this is the country antichrist represents. He hates this country, and the "princes" he is conspiring with hate her, but she has no clue. She is more concerned with wealth and comfort than she is with politics, world events, or God's plans. This is the wealthiest country the earth has ever seen. It has corrupted the whole earth with its desire for luxury and the lust it exports) like a fire consumes a forest in a fruitful land; it will waste away like sick people in a plague. Of all that glorious forest, only a few trees will survive— so few that a child could count them! In that day the remnant left in Israel, the survivors in the house of Jacob, will no longer depend on allies who seek to destroy them (God calls the peace treaty they trust antichrist to enforce is a "treaty with death") But they will faithfully trust the Lord , the Holy One of Israel. A remnant will return; yes, the remnant of Jacob will return to the Mighty God. But though the people of Israel are as numerous as the sand of the seashore, only a remnant of them will return. The Lord has rightly decided to destroy his people. Yes, the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, has already decided to destroy the entire land. So this is what the Lord, the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, says: “O my people in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrians when they oppress you with rod and club as the Egyptians did long ago. In a little while my anger against you will end, and then my anger will rise up to destroy them.” The Lord of Heaven’s Armies will lash them with his whip, as he did when Gideon triumphed over the Midianites at the rock of Oreb, or when the Lord ’s staff was raised to drown the Egyptian army in the sea. In that day the Lord will end the bondage of his people. He will break the yoke of slavery and lift it from their shoulders.
The leader of the last superpower before Jesus returns will broker a peace treaty that He will promise to enforce by placing his own troops in the West Bank for 7-years. The plan of his heart is to control Jerusalem. The country he leads is clueless, even though he is somewhat openly conspiring with middle eastern leaders to dominate the world. God will judge him, and the nation he represents by turning the princes he is conspiring with against her. This will all happen suddenly:
Revelation 17:11-18 “The scarlet beast that was, but is no longer, is the eighth king (antichrist, aligned with an Islamic Caliphate...the seventh superpower). He is like the other seven, and he, too, is headed for destruction. The ten horns of the beast (the princes from Isaiah 10) are ten kings who have not yet risen to power. They will be appointed to their kingdoms for one brief moment to reign with the beast (antichrist). They will all agree to give him their power and authority. Together they will go to war against the Lamb (Jesus), but the Lamb will defeat them because he is Lord of all lords and King of all kings. And his called and chosen and faithful ones will be with him (His Bride...Me!!).” Then the angel said to me, “The waters where the prostitute (antichrist's country) is ruling represent masses of people of every nation and language. The scarlet beast (antichrist) and his ten horns (middle eastern Islamic caliphate desiring princes) all hate the prostitute (antichrists country). They will strip her naked, eat her flesh, and burn her remains with fire. For God has put a plan into their minds, a plan that will carry out his purposes. They will agree to give their authority to the scarlet beast, and so the words of God will be fulfilled. And this woman (the harlot Babylon...prostitute...country of the antichrist) you saw in your vision represents the great city that rules over the kings of the world.”
LOTS of God's people live in the Harlot Babylon. They are supposed to wake up and "come out of her" (stop agreeing with her, come together in one accord, and pray night and day to establish a City of Refuge as described in Joel 2, Amos 9, the Gospels, Revelation)
Revelation 18:2-4 He gave a mighty shout: “Babylon is fallen—that great city is fallen! She has become a home for demons. She is a hideout for every foul spirit, a hideout for every foul vulture and every foul and dreadful animal. For all the nations have fallen because of the wine of her passionate immorality. The kings of the world have committed adultery with her. Because of her desires for extravagant luxury, the merchants of the world have grown rich.” Then I heard another voice calling from heaven, “Come away from her, my people. Do not take part in her sins, or you will be punished with her.
The "king of Assyria" is the antichrist. There is so much information in the Bible about this man, and what God intends to accomplish by releasing him to his desire.
