End Time Babylon pt 1
The Bible talks extensively about the last world superpower and its relationship to the anti-christ, Israel, and God. These are some of the most sobering passages in the Bible for our generation. Many believe the Bible does not ever specifically mention the United States and its role in the end times. I think those who believe that are mistaken. In fact, I believe the United States has a central role in the end times and is described to a "T".
My opinion is not popular, but it is important to wrestle with what YOU believe God is trying to convey to the world through His word. Loyalty to Jesus is more important than any patriotic ideal that says "my country must always be right." In the modern American church, patriotism is often held up as a Christian ideal...this is ok if your country operates in agreement with Jesus, but if it doesn't...imagine patriotism in Nazi Germany, Stalinist Russia, or Mao's China...patriotism as a part of your religion can leave you actually fighting the very purpose and truth of God.
The last gentile superpower described in the Bible is symbolically called "Babylon." This is the 8th superpower that merges with a revived version of the 7th.
Revelation 17:9-13, 15-18 “Here is the mind which has wisdom: The seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman sits. There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, and the other has not yet come. And when he comes, he must continue a short time. The beast that was, and is not, is himself also the eighth, and is of the seven, and is going to perdition. “The ten horns which you saw are ten kings who have received no kingdom as yet, but they receive authority for one hour as kings with the beast. These are of one mind, and they will give their power and authority to the beast. Then he said to me, “The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues. And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth.”
The seven gentile (non-jewish) world superpowers that have dominated Israel are: Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome (the one that "is" while John is getting this info on Patmos, and the Ottoman empire or Islamic Caliphate. The Ottoman Empire functionally ended in the 1800s and breathed its last breath when Turkey became a democratic country in the 1920s. This empire was different than the others...it started as a "democratic theocracy" and became a dictatorship. This one systematically attempted to erase any evidence of other cultures in the middle east.
Right now one organization, called the Muslim Brotherhood, is committed to the revival of the Islamic Caliphate. When the Muslim Brotherhood got a foothold in Egypt, new energy and life was breathed into the dreams of the revived Caliphate...right now wars are occurring all over the middle east as the Muslim Brotherhood has aligned with western governments to bring down the weak leaders that don't see their vision. Two governments, Egypt and Libya, have been uprooted with heavy US support, even air raids in Libya. Syria is embattled by the same forces that swept in opportunistically in Egypt, went to war in Libya, and are now using the same Libyan tactics to overtake Syria. This was foretold:
Daniel 7:7-8 “After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns. I was considering the horns, and there was another horn, a little one, coming up among them, before whom three of the first horns were plucked out by the roots. And there, in this horn, were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking pompous words.
The little 11th horn is different than the 10 established horns...this is a newer leader and a newer country. This is the antichrist. The antichrist, who is known for his arrogance, through treachery and maneuvering systematically replaces three kings with those more favorable to what He desires. He is taking sides with the idea of the resurrection of the 7th empire...He is choosing...in an obvious way... to side with the Muslim Brotherhood, even though they hate his own country! Antichrist...the 11th horn, carries a country, and she carries Him. Secretly, he hates her and he hates Israel...but for him the means justifies the end. The 10 horns hate his country too, but they give their willing alliance to Him for a season...the muslims agreeing with the socialists (iron and clay)...even though at some point they will turn on her and burn her with fire...
Revelation 17:16 And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire.
This is what the Bible says the rest of the world will think when this happens:
Revelation 18:9-11, 15-19 “The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’ ...“And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’ “They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she is made desolate.’
There is a warning to the end time Babylon...the last gentile superpower that tries to dominate Israel...before this catastrophe happens:
Revelation 18:1-4, 7-8 After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.” And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. In the measure that she glorified herself and lived luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ Therefore her plagues will come in one day—death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.
The angel declares "she has BECOME a haunt of demons"...this country was once the "Golden City" of the earth:
Isaiah 14:4 that you will take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say: “How the oppressor has ceased, The golden city ceased!
She was also called the "Lady of Kingdoms" by Isaiah. Isaiah prophesied the same events as John. This should be sobering for the wealthiest country to ever inhabit earth...the Lady of Kingdoms, who greets the world with Liberty but has been turned into a haunt of demons where once goodness dwelt, now evil, random murder, lust, and perversion of the mind are obvious:
Isaiah 47:5-9 “Sit in silence, and go into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; For you shall no longer be called The Lady of Kingdoms. I was angry with My people; I have profaned My inheritance, And given them into your hand. You showed them no mercy; On the elderly you laid your yoke very heavily. And you said, ‘I shall be a lady forever,’ So that you did not take these things to heart, Nor remember the latter end of them. “Therefore hear this now, you who are given to pleasures, Who dwell securely, Who say in your heart, ‘I am, and there is no one else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, Nor shall I know the loss of children’; But these two things shall come to you In a moment, in one day: The loss of children, and widowhood. They shall come upon you in their fullness Because of the multitude of your sorceries, For the great abundance of your enchantments.
God said that He trusted the Golden City to take care of His people, Israel...instead, this country turned on Israel and eventually showed her no mercy. This is referring to the "treaty with death"...the 7-year peace treaty the antichrist...the leader of the last luxurious gentile world empire...will broker for her. He will guarantee Israel's security for 7 years, but in the middle...3.5 years into it, He will break the treaty (Daniel 9:27), and, not letting a good crisis go to waste, when Syria and Egypt turn on Him He will invade first Syria, then Egypt, then He will take over Israel, and lay seige to Jerusalem...because He believes He knows the way to world peace...and if you have to break some eggs to make a cake, He is willing to do it!
