Hearing and Obeying
God wants to talk to His people. He has much He would like to reveal to us. He wants to whisper things to us that will build confidence of His love in our hearts, give us direction to flow in His plans, and reveal to us the things that get between us and God. There is SO much He will say to us if we "ask, seek, and knock."
Elijah described hearing God as listening to a "still small voice." Although when people have heard the audible voice of the Lord they describe it as sounding like thunder, or the crashing of ocean waves, when we hear God with the ears of our heart, it is His "still small voice."
There is a principle in God's kingdom that those who are faithful with a little are given much more. If you aren't faithful with a little, you usually aren't given any more. If God whispers something to you, or shows you something, and you write it off as coincidence or imagination, don't expect a more clear revelation. Like Zecharia told Zerubbabel, don't despise the day of small beginnings.
Usually, when God speaks, it requires a commitment to faith...to take a risk to believe it is God, on the part of the hearer. As we take more risks in the kingdom, we build a history of hearing God, and His voice gets clearer and clearer...this is the beginning of a powerful relationship with the one who has spoken for thousands of years to those with hearts that seek Him out!
Jeremiah 32:6 At that time the LORD sent me a message. He said, 7 "Your cousin Hanamel son of Shallum will come and say to you, `Buy my field at Anathoth. By law you have the right to buy it before it is offered to anyone else.'"
8 Then, just as the LORD had said he would, my cousin Hanamel came and visited me in the prison. He said, "Please buy my field at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin. By law you have the right to buy it before it is offered to anyone else, so buy it for yourself." Then I knew that the message I had heard was from the LORD .
Even Jeremiah wasn't sure it was God speaking until He took a risk and believed it was God
